Although the 41st Sandhills Celebration is postponed until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sandhills Sweetheart Pageant will be staged Thursday, July 30 at The Roxy Theater.
However, the pageant will not include the Little Miss Sandhills Pageant for little girls, and production numbers will not be a part of the pageant this year.
According to Robyn Stevenson, who is producing the pageant this year, the visual portion of the pageant at The Roxy Theater will include casual dress, formal wear and an onstage question. Earlier in the day the panel of judges will conduct contestant interviews at First Baptist Church.
At the Roxy, seating will be limited and social distancing requirements will be enforced. Each contestant will receive two tickets, plus each will be allowed to have one person working with them back stage.
The pageant will be broadcast on Facebook Live starting at 7 p.m.
Girls attending Olton High School and high school age girls residing in Olton can compete in the pageant. Contestant forms are available for pick up now or they can be downloaded at oltonchamber.org, Olton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Manager Adrienne Synatschk said. Be sure to click on the Sandhills tab on the Web site and scroll down to where you can click on the download.
A $100 Chamber business sponsor fee is required with each Sweetheart Pageant contestant application, but the Chamber will assist girls needing to secure sponsorships. The fee is $250 for non-Chamber member business sponsors, and the sponsoring business will received a one-year Chamber membership.
Contestant applications are due July 14, when a mandatory contestant-parent meeting is held at The Roxy Theater.
